Associate/Senior Solicitor – Renewable Energy (3 years + PQE)

Davidson Chalmers Stewart is a leading independent commercial law firm operating from offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow.  The firm's underlying business rationale is to provide clients with excellent quality service which combines first rate technical legal skills with practical commercial advice.  Davidson Chalmers Stewart also aims to provide colleagues with a supportive culture which allows each individual to flourish

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the firm’s thriving Renewable Energy team.  The Renewable Energy team carries out high quality work, with a real estate focus, across all renewable energy technologies, with particular emphasis on onshore wind, solar PV, battery storage and hydro.  The client mix is broad, spanning a wide range of national and international private energy generators.  In addition, the team acts for a number of landowners and estates in respect of renewables installations on their land.

The day-to-day aspects of the role will involve:

  • Drafting and negotiating option agreements and leases across a breadth of renewable technologies
  • Undertaking due diligence on these projects to include reviewing title, enquiries, and searches as well as the preparation of investment grade title reports and Certificates of Title.
  • Providing commercial property support to the corporate aspects of renewable energy project acquisitions and disposals.
  • Maintaining and improving relations with existing clients.
  • Managing and developing junior team members.

The successful candidate will support two partners within the department covering all types of work carried out by the teams.  Initially the role will focus mainly on the real estate aspects (including corporate support and property development work) but with the opportunity to take on other project and regulatory work undertaken by the department in due course.

The firm is expanding, and the role offers a great opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their career in a fast-moving and interesting sector.  A high degree of commercial awareness is essential, together with an appetite for keeping up to date with the latest developments in your practice area and sector focus.

Client contact and business development are actively encouraged with all team members contributing to sector marketing strategies.

A competitive salary and range of benefits are offered.  Normal working hours will be 9.00am – 5.30pm, Monday – Friday, with an element of flexible and/or home-working available (in line with firm policy).

If you are interested in this role, please submit your CV along with a covering letter by email, indicating your current salary and why you believe you are the best applicant for the post, to the HR Department at Davidson Chalmers Stewart LLP (email: pamela.easton@dcslegal.com).
