Davidson Chalmers Stewart is a leading independent commercial law firm operating from offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow.  The firm's underlying business rationale is to provide clients with excellent quality service which combines first rate technical legal skills with practical commercial advice.

Due to our continued growth we are seeking a Legal Cashier to work within our busy Finance department.  Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will be working as an integral part of a friendly and supportive finance team within a fast-paced, busy legal Cashroom.  To effectively support the business, this role is based in our offices in Edinburgh’s West End.   

Whilst previous Legal Cashier experience is advantageous, it is not essential and applications from candidates with previous finance experience, who can exhibit the skills and attributes below, will be given due consideration.  Full training will be provided together with the option to study for a SOLAS qualification.

Duties will include:

  • Monitoring the Cashroom mailbox and dealing with transactions and queries in a prompt and timely manner
  • Monitoring Client and Firm bank accounts and allocating incoming payments
  • Processing outgoing bank transfers
  • Processing and paying professional disbursements and purchase ledger invoices
  • Daily reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Maintaining designated client accounts
  • Monthly reconciliation of company credit cards
  • Routine banking, management of petty cash and handling card payments
  • Assisting with Month End processes
  • Developing knowledge of Law Society of Scotland accounts rules
  • Any other duties as instructed by the Head Cashier & Head of Finance

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Positive and confident with a can-do attitude and desire to learn
  • Highly numerate with a methodical approach, excellent accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure, to assess tasks, prioritise and escalate where required
  • A team player who is also willing to take ownership and responsibility for their own role
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with colleagues of all levels
  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to learn new computer software packages


Normal working hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30

A hybrid working arrangement may be considered after successful completion of initial training and in line with Firm policy.
